The Rise Of Sachamama

Painted with acrylics on canvas.

In Peruvian mythology, the Sachamama is the embodiment of the rainforest mother in the form of a giant snake.  In Quechua, Sachamama means "spirit mother of the jungle".  The vegetation of the forest grows on top of her enormous body.  In this painting she is rising up from the earth and shedding her skin of all the darkness and destruction on the planet.  She carries the key to the new earth, as baby phoenixes hatch from their eggs and hummingbirds sip from the rainbow nectar that make up her scales.
